Mindless routines can leave you empty-handed

I don't know who needs to hear this today, but life usually doesn't come with warnings.

This realization came into view when I went to walk my sweet little puppy Gunny the other morning.

...As an aside, I have a lot of habit stacks in the morning that get me from point A to point B without having to do a lot of thinking...

So since weather can be so changeable, I have rolls of, well, poop bags (sorry, but there we are) in all my different jacket pockets - lightweight jackets, heavier jackets - all by the door.

So when I put on my coat the other morning, I put my hand in the pocket to make sure the bags were in there.

And there was this little sticker on them. It said "Only 3 bags left."

I was like, "Huh, that's a useful warning...thank you for thinking for me!"

You might be thinking, Dawn, how is this helping me in my life right now?

Well I'm going to tell you, I'm glad you asked. 😂

Mindless routines can leave you empty-handed

Too often in life, we mindlessly do the same things over and over.

I know I do. There's a lot of comfort in it.

But the problem is, with your head down like that, it's a slippery slope from going through the usual motions to "Uggghhh I'm unprepared."

⏰ Maybe this is the last 3 times you're going to see somebody. (Or even the last time you're going to see somebody.)

⏰ Maybe there's an activity you do that you're on only going to be able to do 3 more times. Or 1 more time.

⏰ Maybe this thing you've been doing in business all this time is suddenly going to stop producing the results it used to.

⏰ Maybe the Law of Diminishing Returns is just going to keep whittling away at all your hard work, leaving you with less and less.

⏰ Or maybe the industry you're working in or the life you're living is going to change in such a way that what you've been doing...just isn't going to sustain you any more.

Life doesn't usually come with convenient sticker warnings about these things...

"Prepare thyself: Things are about to get poopy."

So I'm sharing this with you today because when I saw the poop bag warning, I asked myself:

Where in my life am I just doing "business as usual" and not paying attention to what's coming down the line?

If this is you (and let's face it, it's most of us), here's a chance to correct that - we're doing a Momentum Reset very soon.

CHECK OUT MOMENTUM RESET

Maybe you're feeling unprepared for what's coming down the line.

Maybe what you're doing isn't producing enough results.

Maybe you're finding yourself running into walls.

Maybe what you're doing has lost it's appeal.

Maybe you can't find your poop bags.

If you're feeling any of these ways, you may very well need that Momentum Reset.

We need to make sure you're aiming at the right things...that's the A.I.M. Framework.

It's when you're in Alignment and you get Intentional about doing certain things, that throws you into Momentum.

(I'll teach you all about this in the workshop.)

So if something's not happening for you like you'd like it to, or if something in your world has shifted, or you've shifted, or you're afraid something's going to shift, or you need something to shift, or you just don't know that to do...the Momentum Reset is a great place for you to be.

I'd love to have you in there with me, taking action and getting your poop bags in order. ;)

Why big to-do lists cause you to freeze
The weather dropped to 58 degrees the other day and right on cue, my brain went into overdrive. All of a sudden, I wasn't just enjoying a crisp morning—I was mentally inventorying my entire life for fall and winter. "I need to swap out my closet, buy sidewalk salt, get new windshield wiper blades on the car, check the tires..." Where did that even come from? One cool morning, and suddenly I’m h...
Constantly course-correcting got you tense?
I was doing a little highway-driving a couple of weeks ago. When I first got behind the wheel, everything felt easy. Smooth roads, fresh energy, cruising right along. But after some time on the road, I noticed I was having to apply extra pressure to keep the car centered in the lane. There wasn't even a strong wind—and pretty sure my car's in alignment—but nonetheless it kept subtly drifting. P...
Stop treating future tasks as immediate priorities
Ever felt like you have 47 open tabs running in your brain, all demanding your full attention at the same time?  If so, you're in good company. Almost every leader and business professional I’ve spoken with over the last few weeks is feeling that same mental drag.  I compare this to being an air traffic controller. (Instead of 47 tabs, those are 47 planes in the air.) Air traffic controllers st...
