Why I needed a nap on Monday

BLUF

  • The Reality: Draining days happen when things out of your zone of genius fill your plate...instead of work that fills your cup
  • The Action Step: When you're drained, do a quick brain dump of what you did that day, so you can recognize what's zapping your energy

BLUF = Bottom Line Up Front

I had one of those "Mondayest" Mondays this week.

It was kind of a free day. Filled mostly with administrative tasks—end-of-year prep, follow-ups, and calendar management.

You'd think a "free" day to button things up would be life-giving. But by the middle of the day, I was drained. (So I made today's video, then had a nap!)

Contrast that with last week: I spent an entire 9-hour day onsite with a client teaching, connecting, and solving problems. I was "on" from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM...yet walked away energized. On fire.

So what's going on?

⬇️ Btw, watch instead of reading, or read on below.

Why Monday felt so heavy

It's the alignment that's the problem. Not the workload.

When we do work that is cup-filling and aligned with who we are, it fuels us. But when our days are consumed by things out of alignment, everything feels heavier, clunkier, and more draining.

So whenever your day is feeling exhausting, take a quick assessment of what your day has consisted of.

Recognizing what is zapping your lifeforce is the first step in fixing it.

With the holiday, we only have about 8 trule productive weeks left in the 4th quarter.

Don't spend the rest of the year pushing through on empty. Get aligned and make these remaining weeks count.

Love doing life with you,

Dawn

PS - What made you open this one? Would love if you could shoot me a quick answer.

Keeping clarity in tough conversations
Have you ever seen Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical Hamilton? There’s a line where Aaron Burr gives Alexander Hamilton a piece of advice: "Talk less and smile more." That phrase pops into my head frequently—especially when I’m watching things start to come undone in meetings and conversations. It makes me wonder: is quiet, curious listening an art we’ve lost? When tensions run high or we...
This could be what you need
Time sure has a way of sneaking up on us. Here we are, heading into the last quarter of 2026. So as we step into this final stretch, I want check in with you: Are you excited? Do you feel accomplished? Looking back over the last nine months, did you check off (or at least take major ground) on all the things you set out to do this year? If your answer is "not quite," please hear me: It happens....
Are you too close to see it?
Have you ever been so close to something that you couldn't see it for what it truly was? Me too. Why does that happen? Why is it so hard to see clearly...when we're right in the middle of it? It’s because when you're entangled in the day-to-day—managing details, putting out fires, following your usual routines, keeping things moving—your focus gets zoomed all the way in. When your nose is pres...
