A video meeting...with yourself?

Are you someone who believes that if something's gonna be done right, you gotta be the one to handle it?

I’ve been that person too.

Honestly, I can still be that person. I regularly have to question myself with "Am I really the ONLY person who can do this?"

After all, we all know there’s a "right" way to load the dishwasher, right?... "My way."

(Actually, I got over that years ago. Just put the dishes in, turn it on, and let's keep moving. I don’t have time for "perfect" when "done" gives you so much more freedom.)

Granted, when it comes to your business or your bigger life goals, wanting things done right is more critical than what goes on the top rack—but it still shouldn't keep you handcuffed to doing things yourself, forever.

We need a way to pass the gold in our heads onto others.

So here's a quick life hack for you...

(⬇️ Btw, watch instead of reading, or read on below.)

A video meeting...with yourself?

Next time you’re doing a task and thinking, "Why am I still the one doing this?"—do this instead:

  1. Schedule a Google Meet with yourself. Yes, just you. Put the link right on your calendar.
  2. Hit Record and Transcribe. (And turn on the Gemini summary if you have it).
  3. Share your screen and talk through every step you take. "First I go here, then I click this. I use _____ to log in, and then I go to _____  in the top right..." Don't worry about it being perfect.
  4. When you’re done, you’ll have a messy recording and transcript sitting in your Google Drive. Take those, throw them into Gemini, and ask it to create a SOP that you plan to give to a 12-year-old. (Sounds weird, but this helps remove all the "expert" noise we tend to add.)

Suddenly, you have a framework. Something you can actually hand off to someone else to cross-train them.

Awareness is the first step. Once you realize you're the bottleneck, you can choose to build a system that sets you free.

What’s one task you’re holding onto right now because you haven't documented it yet? And what is that "doing it all" mindset costing you?

Love doing life with you,

Dawn

PS - If you want to dive deeper into these kinds of shifts, we have an On-The-Go Organization and Life Hacks class where we share even more ways to reclaim your time. You can find upcoming sessions on our Workshops and Events tab.

And hey, if you know you need SOPs but you also know you aren't going to be the one to click record—we can help with that too. Our team can step in and create those for you so you can finally stop spinning.

Are you letting small problems get prickly?
When out walking my dog Gunny, I'm actively looking for things that are out of place or need fixing. It’s just how my brain works. So if you ever look out your window and see someone pulling a rogue weed from your yard—well, it might be me. Sorry and...you're welcome? ✌️ The other day, Gunny and I took a path we hadn't walked in a while. And I spotted this weed (check video). It was HUGE. Worse...
Do you actually have 5 minutes?
The other morning, I ran across a task—a small but important one that would have taken less than 5 minutes to do—and thought to myself, "No time for that right now." Then later that evening? I caught myself scrolling on my phone for 35 minutes. That's when it hit me: We always have time for the things we value.  When we tell ourselves we're "too busy," we're usually just using busyness as a shi...
What ice cream and float trips teach us
We all build our lives day-by-day with habits or patterns. ➡️ We drive the same way to and from work. ➡️ We make dinner the same nights of the week. ➡️ We wake up each morning and go through our morning routine.  All those things are taking you somewhere. And the slightest shift starts changing things. To lay it out as an example we can all probably relate to... The shift to stop your morning ...
