Over the holidays I went to my happy place - the beach.

But I’ll be honest: It wasn't the tropical vibe you're probably picturing.

It was the beautiful sandy beaches of...Gulf Shores, Alabama.

AKA when waking up in the morning, 35 degrees with a "real feel" of 16.

Not exactly textbook "beach" weather. šŸ˜‚

But I wanted to be at the beach for my 50th birthday. I wanted to put my toes in the sand. And there I was...just yards from my goal.

So I had a choice. I could stay inside where it was warm and miss the very thing I came here for...

...Or I could just bundle up in layers, wrap the scarf a little higher, and get out there.

(So I did. VoilĆ !)

Despite the cold, it was brilliantly sunny. And as I turned toward the ocean, the sun warmed my face and I was grateful I had gotten out there.

It was a beautiful reminder that we get to choose what we focus on.

It also made me stop and think: "What am I allowing to get in my way?"

Because I could've stayed inside. I could've focused on being cold.

But instead I got out there and focused on the fact that I had all I needed. I was bundled up against the elements. When I turned toward the sun, I was warmed. I was at peace hearing the gentle lapping of the waves.

The ocean brings things in and draws things back out, and as I watched I couldn’t help but wonder what that looks like for us as we step into 2026:

  • What needs to be drawn closer to you?
  • What needs to be washed away?

You don’t have to "fix" everything today. You don't have to strive for perfect.

But you can become aware of what you'd like a little more of, what you'd like a little less of, and most importantly, what you already have right in front of you.

Let me know if this hits home. I’d love to hear what you're choosing to focus on this year.

Blessings,

Dawn

Stop trying to finish the year and start being present
I sent this video out to my Group Coaching members last week, and thought maybe you could use it too... We're in the last weeks of the year and there's still a LOT left to happen... AND I'm planning to be on vacation during part of that. When that happens, I see time running out and become overwhelmed. I start thinking about all the things that won't happen. And start hyperfixating on...
Stop focusing on what you're missing
Do you have that one thing that gets all your attention? The one thing that you can't stop thinking about? The one thing that you obsess spending time and energy over? And here's the kicker... Is that one thing something that's out of your control? Is thatĀ one thing not even one of your strengths? Is that one thing an unrealistic standard you're holding yourself (or someone else) to? ...
You're getting charged for this habit...and you probably don't even realize it
We all drag our feet sometimes. Maybe you keep pushing off cleaning all the leaves out of the gutter. Or just can't get around to re-securing a loose button on a shirt.Ā  Or can't summon the energy to catch up with family or friends. Avoidance feels pretty trivial. After all, you'll just "get around to it eventually," right? But...have you ever thought about what it's costing you? The ...
