Over the holidays I went to my happy place - the beach.

But I’ll be honest: It wasn't the tropical vibe you're probably picturing.

It was the beautiful sandy beaches of...Gulf Shores, Alabama.

AKA when waking up in the morning, 35 degrees with a "real feel" of 16.

Not exactly textbook "beach" weather. šŸ˜‚

But I wanted to be at the beach for my 50th birthday. I wanted to put my toes in the sand. And there I was...just yards from my goal.

So I had a choice. I could stay inside where it was warm and miss the very thing I came here for...

...Or I could just bundle up in layers, wrap the scarf a little higher, and get out there.

(So I did. VoilĆ !)

Despite the cold, it was brilliantly sunny. And as I turned toward the ocean, the sun warmed my face and I was grateful I had gotten out there.

It was a beautiful reminder that we get to choose what we focus on.

It also made me stop and think: "What am I allowing to get in my way?"

Because I could've stayed inside. I could've focused on being cold.

But instead I got out there and focused on the fact that I had all I needed. I was bundled up against the elements. When I turned toward the sun, I was warmed. I was at peace hearing the gentle lapping of the waves.

The ocean brings things in and draws things back out, and as I watched I couldn’t help but wonder what that looks like for us as we step into 2026:

  • What needs to be drawn closer to you?
  • What needs to be washed away?

You don’t have to "fix" everything today. You don't have to strive for perfect.

But you can become aware of what you'd like a little more of, what you'd like a little less of, and most importantly, what you already have right in front of you.

Let me know if this hits home. I’d love to hear what you're choosing to focus on this year.

Blessings,

Dawn

Routines, turmoil, and clean sheets
Have you ever been the person who thought every single week was supposed to look exactly the same? If I just vacuum on Monday... If I just make those 15 biz dev phone calls on Tuesday... If I always see my chiropractor the third Wednesday of the month... (By the way, I see my chiropractor on Mondays. I am absolutely this person—I love a good schedule and a solid routine.)Ā  But what happens duri...
Who ya gonna call?
If you grew up anywhere near the 80s or 90s, you hear that phrase and your mind instantly goes to one place. It’s fun, it's iconic, it's nostalgic. When a surge of spectral activity overwhelmed NYC in the mid-80s, everyday citizens and businesses needed a specialized crew to help. When you needed a ghost expert...you called Ghostbusters. They were a trusted resource. (Okay, they were the only r...
Are you letting small problems get prickly?
When out walking my dog Gunny, I'm actively looking for things that are out of place or need fixing. It’s just how my brain works. So if you ever look out your window and see someone pulling a rogue weed from your yard—well, it might be me. Sorry and...you're welcome? āœŒļø The other day, Gunny and I took a path we hadn't walked in a while. And I spotted this weed (check video). It was HUGE. Worse...
