Which hat are you wearing today?
Coming to you today to talk about something I'm hearing from a lot of you.
I don't know if it's because kids are home from school, or because of everything going on in the world, or if it's the kind of people (the "Do Everything"-ers!) who are being attracted into my circle.
But it's this idea of "Juggling all the things and wearing all the hats."
Have you ever felt like that?
I know I have.
I enjoy juggling all the things, actually. And I don't really mind wearing a bunch of different hats either.
But sometimes you have hat confusion, right?
You're so used to wearing one particular hat, maybe you wear it to the wrong event.
Or you're jumping between so many things, you don't even know which hat you're wearing.

So if you wear a bunch of different hats, it's important to check in with yourself about them.
Some things to ask yourself?
- How often do I try to have more than one hat on at the same time?
- How many hats am I wearing right now?
- Is wearing more than one hat helping or hurting me?
- Is this the hat I NEED to be wearing for this situation?
- Is this the best hat to help me accomplish what I want to accomplish?
- Is this hat a good look for me? ๐ Is there someone else who could wear it better?
And that brings me to pauses.
Obviously you should pause long enough to ask yourself those questions.
But I really recommed having regular routines of pause in your day. At the very least to do a little breath work, or take a quick walk around the block to clear your head.
And if you're overwhelmed with juggling all the things and wearing all that hats, it'll behoove you to take an even longer pause.
I know that hurts to think about. When you're trying to keep balls in the air, you don't want to put them down.
But if you're feeling that way, it's probably an indication that you need a pause.
And consider this: Did you know that for every hour of planning, you earn back 3-4 hours in your week?
(The cost of a long pause doesn't seem so bad with that in mind, does it?)
In fact, I came back from a weekend not long ago where the entire intent was to pause. Pause and reflect on where I'd been, where I was going, and what I wanted to be focused on. It allowed me to get centered.
And if you can't commit to that long of a pause? That's okay.
Start with a smaller step, and carve out a small amount of time in your day to pause. Every day. Maybe just 5 minutes. Maybe just 1 minute! For every 1 minute, you'll earn back 3-4. For every 5, you'll earn back 15-20.
Maybe in the morning when you're fresh, or the evening when you need to reflect, take time to do a 1-5 minute brain dump to get stuff out of your head, and better see your priorities for the next day.
It doesn't have to be perfect. Just start cultivating the habit of pausing, and taking action out of those pauses, and see how it feels.
Oh and PS - Give yourself permission to take off some of the hats!
Because I don't know about you, but when I have lots of different hats on at the same time, it's not a good look. ๐งข๐๐ฉ๐
So what would it look like for you to wear just one hat right now and focus on one thing?
Blessings,
Dawn
