The secret to rejuvenating weeks
Coming to you from a different place for today's video. I just finished my restorative yoga class—it’s one of those weekly rhythms that keeps me on track.
It’s how I make sure I keep showing up...not just for my clients and this community, but for myself.
Honestly? That’s the most important person to show up for: YOU.
It’s also often the hardest.
Starting these rhythms can be hard...especially when you’re running a business. When your to-do list is screaming and you feel like you're constantly fire-fighting, slowing down can feel like you’re losing ground.
You might even feel a little guilty for "wasting" time on a walk or a yoga mat when there is so much to do.
But when you intentionally show up for yourself, you aren't just "relaxing"—you're building the physical and mental capacity to lead.
Some examples of what that looks like for a busy professional...
-
Yoga: Trains your brain to find a "compassionate pause" instead of just reacting to the next crisis.
-
Walking (with your dog or solo): Helps unlock creative solutions to the business problems you’ve been chewing on all day.
-
Staying Hydrated: Helps kill the brain fog that makes you re-read the same email four times before hitting send.
-
Dinner & Fire Pit Time with Friends & Family: Pulls you out of the business vacuum and reminds you WHY you’re working so hard in the first place.
"But Dawn, I don't have time."
I hear you. But often, we don't need more time; we just need to trade the time we’re already spending on things that drain us or don't serve us.
My advice? Start small and use habit swaps:
- Trade the doomscroll for a stretch: Instead of losing 15 minutes to the news or social media before bed, spend 5 minutes doing some simple floor stretches. Your sleep (and your neck) will thank you.
- Trade the inbox for the water bottle: Before you open your email in the morning, drink a full 16oz of water. Give your brain a head start before the world starts asking for your attention.
- Trade one "fire" for a 10-minute walk: When a problem feels unsolvable, step away. Walk around the block. You’ll usually find the answer faster than if you stayed hunched over your desk.
But first, look at your calendar from last week. Did you intentionally show up for yourself somewhere? Are you scheduled to do it again?
Now look at the rest of this week. Where can you make a "swap" to carve out space for yourself?
Give yourself a compassionate pause today. Look at what would actually be a differentiator for you—and then put it on the calendar to keep it in front of you.
I’d love to hear what rejuvenates you!
Love doing life with you,
Dawn
