Routines, turmoil, and clean sheets
Have you ever been the person who thought every single week was supposed to look exactly the same?
If I just vacuum on Monday...
If I just make those 15 biz dev phone calls on Tuesday...
If I always see my chiropractor the third Wednesday of the month...
(By the way, I see my chiropractor on Mondays. I am absolutely this person—I love a good schedule and a solid routine.)
But what happens during holiday weeks, when a workweek goes from 5 days to 4?
Or weeks when the kids are off school on the "wrong" day, or your assistant is out, and your perfectly planned days are sent into turmoil?
⬇️ Btw, watch instead of reading, or read on below.

I found myself there last week. It was a holiday week, we were heading out of town for the weekend, and I had just gotten back into town from some business travel.
I felt that heavy, familiar weight: I don't have enough time to do all the things.
Then it hit me:
I DO have enough time for the things I need to do. I just don't have enough time for all the things I want to do.
The reality is, we always have time for the things we truly value.
Take my bed sheets, for example.
Before leaving town, I needed clean sheets on the bed. I knew it'd make a difference mentally—knowing it was done while we were away, and then having nice clean sheets to slip into after coming back from a hot, sweaty 4th of July weekend.
I needed it, I tell you. I didn't think I had the time to make it happen, but prioritized it anyway.
When we finally walked through the bedroom door Sunday night? I was OVER THE MOON happy to come home to clrisp, clean sheets. Even my husband looked at me and said, "You're really glad we took the time to do that, aren't you?"
Yes, I absolutely was. ---
Sizing Up the Week Ahead
I'm telling you this because this week, coming off the holiday, is Week 1 of the 3rd quarter...and officially the second half of the year.
As you look at your week ahead, I want to give you the awareness to do two simple things:
- Look at reality: Assess the actual amount of time you have to get things done right now, respecting the complexity of real life.
- Block it out: Put intentional blocks of time on your calendar specifically dedicated to completing those non-negotiable activities.
When you map it out this way, you arrive at Friday knowing what needed to happen, actually got done. From there, you can squeeze your "want-tos" into the extra spaces without guilt or frustration.
Don't let temporary schedule disruptions derail your progress and send you into overwhelm!
You don't have to force a flawless routine or rely on endless willpower. You just need clarity, grounded structure, and a path forward that feels doable.
Thanks for doing life with me,
Dawn
