Are you stuck in "Ready, Aim, Aim, Aim" mode?
Do you find yourself endlessly tweaking projects?
Or waiting for the "perfect" time to launch a new initiative?
Or over-analyzing a decision until you are completely paralyzed?
You've no doubt heard the phrase "Ready, Aim, Fire" before.
But a lot of us often fall into a different pattern. We get so focused on getting it exactly right that we end up stuck in "Ready, Aim, Aim, Aim" mode.
We keep aiming, adjusting, and preparing...but never actually take the shot.
Why are we like this? đ
It's what happens when you're trapped in an "All or Nothing" mindset. We (falsely) believe that if we can't execute something flawlesslyâwith 100% of our ideal visionâit isn't worth doing at all.
But perfection is the enemy of done. If you want to get unstuck, you have to trade "All or Nothing" for "All or Something."
Doing somethingâeven if it's messy, incomplete, or a smaller version of your grand visionâis infinitely more valuable than a perfect plan that never leaves your head.
So if you've been over-aiming lately, here are some ideas on how to finally take a shot this week on that thing you keep kicking down the road:
- Lower the stakes: What's the smallest, lowest-lift version of your project or idea that you can execute on today?
- Set a hard deadline: Give yourself a non-negotiable cut-off time for the "aiming" phase. When the clock runs out, you have to fire!
- Find help: Feeling paralyzed? Stop taking it on all alone. Find someone who can help you talk things out and move things forward.
- Celebrate the "Something": Stop measuring your success against an impossible standard of perfection. Acknowledge and reward the messy progress you make.
Stop aiming. Take the shot. Let's see what happens.
Love doing life with you,
Dawn
